Dialogue

Hello all! My name is Sophie and I will be taking you through our day on Wednesday.
We began the day with class on  the terrace. The temperature is definitely cooling down, and many of us needed a sweatshirt! It's definitely fall in Egypt and it's a welcome change for most of us. We continued our discussion in Professor Ripley's class about Islamic views of Jesus. This subject has been really challenging my preconceptions of both Christianity and Islam. I think that is one of the best parts about Global Semester and I hope our discussions continue long after we arrive back in the US. Throughout this last month we have seen the importance of interreligious dialogue and how all religions have something to learn from each other.

We continued our day in the spirit of dialogue (after a restful afternoon break) in class with some AUC students that we met with earlier in the month. We got to split up into small groups and discussed a wide range of topics including societal norms, gender roles, class differences, the political situation in both countries, and even some of our favorite music and movies! These dialogue sessions have been really enlightening and shaped how we see Egypt. It is definitely far different from how the media has portrayed the country, and I know we are all excited to tell our fellow Americans about our dialogue with the Egyptian students.

After class, we split off for dinner. I went with a few Oles and our new friend Ayaa who brought us with her brother and friend to an awesome Egyptian restaurant. We were all adventurous and tried delicacies like stuffed pigeon, liver, and a kind of soup called molokhia! It will be hard to leave all of the new friends we are making but I'm sure we'll remember that dinner forever! Catch you tomorrow!
